Getting your child excited about an upcoming photography session can be a fun and creative process with the right approach. Start by talking to them about the session well in advance, focusing on the fun aspects rather than making it seem like a chore. It also helps to show them previous photo sessions you have done and talk to them about why you love the photos. Explain that it’s an opportunity to express themselves and capture memories they'll look back on. You can even let them help choose their outfit or suggest props, which gives them some ownership and control over the experience. Make it interactive by incorporating their favorite activities or hobbies into the session—whether that’s playing with a pet, wearing a superhero costume, or bringing a favorite toy. Keep the mood light and playful, emphasizing that there’s no need to be “perfect.” Offering small incentives, like a treat or a special outing afterward, can also motivate them. I also try to keep my treasure chest handy because kids like to have the opportunity to open it and find a prize. Lastly, reassure your child that the photographer (that's me!) will make it fun and that they can take breaks if needed. With the right mindset, your child will not only look forward to the session but enjoy the process of capturing beautiful moments.
