When it comes to photography, lighting is one of the most crucial elements that can make or break a shot. Natural light can create beautiful, soft images, while harsh artificial light can produce unwanted shadows and highlights. Understanding how to manipulate different lighting conditions can dramatically enhance your photos. For instance, the golden hour—just after sunrise or before sunset—provides a warm, flattering light that is perfect for portraits.
On the other hand, when shooting indoors, you can experiment with window light to create a soft, inviting ambiance. If you find yourself in a low-light situation, don’t shy away from using flash; just remember to diffuse it to avoid overly bright spots.
Another tip is to pay attention to the direction of the light. Side lighting can add depth and dimension, while backlighting can create a stunning silhouette effect. Lastly, always be mindful of your white balance, as this will ensure your colors appear true to life. By mastering the art of lighting, you'll be well on your way to capturing stunning photographs that truly stand out!
You may often see me post looking for a family, or maybe kids or a high school senior who is available or a certain day/time because I have scouted out a location and I want to test it. I normally can spot a location and I know it would be beautiful for a session, but I always want to test if before I book sessions at the location.
This was a spot I have had my eye on! I was so fortunate to have a long-term client come with her family. They made this dream location come true!
