Let’s be real for a second—if you’ve ever seen one of those picture-perfect Instagram posts of a mompreneur sipping coffee in a spotless home office while her kids play quietly in the background… just know that’s not my reality. Like, at all.
In my world, balancing business, motherhood, and life looks more like answering emails while reheating my coffee for the third time, editing photos with a toddler (when mine were younger) on my lap, and somehow managing to forget about a school spirit day again. It’s messy, chaotic, exhausting—and yet, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
The Myth of “Balance”
People talk a lot about “work-life balance,” but let’s be honest—it’s more like a juggling act where someone (or something) is always at risk of being dropped. Some days, my business takes center stage. Other days, my family needs me more. And some days, I just need five minutes of peace with zero responsibilities (which rarely happens, but a girl can dream).
The truth? There’s no perfect formula. No magical schedule that makes it all flow seamlessly. But I’ve learned a few things along the way that help keep me mostly sane.
1. Embracing the Chaos
I used to stress about making everything look effortless. But let’s be real—motherhood and entrepreneurship are both hard, and pretending otherwise just adds more pressure. Now, I embrace the chaos. If my kids barge into a Zoom call? Oh well. If dinner is cereal for the third night in a row? We survived. Life isn’t perfect, and that’s okay.
2. Setting Boundaries (Even When It’s Hard)
When you run your own business, the work never really stops. There’s always another email to answer, another session to edit, another social media post to create. But I’ve learned that if I don’t set boundaries, my business will take over my life.
So, I set “office hours” (even if they’re weird and flexible). I don’t reply to emails at 11 PM. I block off time for family—and I try really hard to be present in those moments. It’s not perfect, but it’s a game-changer.
3. Giving Myself (and Others) Grace
Some days, I crush my to-do list. Other days, I feel like I’m barely keeping my head above water. And you know what? That’s normal. I’ve learned to stop beating myself up over the days that feel less productive.
I’ve also learned to extend that same grace to others. We’re all just doing our best—whether it’s running a business, raising kids, or just making it through the day without losing our minds.
4. Finding Joy in the Little Moments
At the end of the day, the reason I do all of this—the business, the late nights, the hustle—is for my family. And when I step back and soak in the little moments—the belly laughs, the sticky-fingered hugs, the messy but beautiful life we’re building—it makes it all worth it.
So, if you’re a fellow mompreneur trying to do all the things, just know you’re not alone. It’s hard. It’s messy. But it’s also pretty amazing.
And if you need someone to remind you to take the picture, even on the crazy days—I'm your girl. Because one day, we’ll look back and realize that the chaos was actually the good stuff. ❤️
