Finding the right photographer can make all the difference in capturing memories you’ll love forever. With so many options out there, how do you choose? How do you know which one is the best fit for you and your family?
Whether you’re looking for a quick mini session or a longer, more personalized experience, understanding what to look for will help you make the right choice. It’s not only important to know the photographer’s style, but also to understand the different types of sessions, what’s included in the fees, and what to expect before, during, and after.
I’ve put together this guide to help you know what to look for. Together we will walk through key questions to ask, what to consider, and how I handle each one.
What’s your photography style?
Generally, every photographer has their own style when it comes to posing, lighting, and even types of photos like weddings, newborns, or sports. When searching for a photographer, check out their website and make note of the photos that stand out to you. What is it you’re attracted to? If you have a specific vision in mind, you’ll want a photographer that can bring it to life!
Most of my clients are families looking for a fun and laid-back experience with lots of natural, candid moments. I focus on capturing real connections—nothing too stiff or overly posed. I’ll guide you into natural movements and interactions so your photos feel genuine, relaxed, and full of personality.
What’s included in your session packages?
When booking, clarify what you’ll receive - number of photos, digital images, prints, albums, etc. and any additional costs for upgrades or extra images. Also make sure you understand if outfit changes or multiple locations are part of your package.
All my sessions include an online gallery with digital images that you can purchase. Regular and Full sessions include the full gallery, while mini sessions are limited to a certain amount of images. Additional images and/or the full gallery are available to purchase from a Mini Session.
How do you handle location selection?
Definitely ask if they have any recommendations, is the spot already chosen, or if you can choose a specific place that is meaningful to you. Clarify if there are additional charges for travel.
I have a few favorite locations you can check out here. Depending on the session you book, the location may already be set, or you might have the option to choose. Most sessions take place within 20 miles of Mocksville, NC (zip code 27028). If your preferred location is beyond 25 miles, a travel fee will apply. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions about location!
What is your editing process, and how long will it take to receive my images?
Understanding what happens atter the session helps the wait go a little easier. Ask what their process is. How much will they touch up or edit out? Will they do anything to the lighting? Will you be waiting for what feels like forever for that link?
I've fine-tuned my process to ensure you get your photos as quickly as possible—because I’m just as excited to share them as you are to see them! First, I apply my signature editing style, which brightens, sharpens, deepens blacks, enhances whites, and adds vibrance to colors. Then, I go through each image individually, fine-tuning the exposure, adjusting the white balance if needed (warming up or cooling down tones), making any necessary tweaks, and cropping for the best composition. This ensures your final images look polished and cohesive!
How do you handle rescheduling due to weather or another unforeseen circumstance?
It’s always a good idea to understand rescheduling policies upfront so there are no surprises if plans change! Be sure to review all the details when booking, and if anything isn’t clear, don’t hesitate to ask. That way, you’ll know exactly what to expect and can plan accordingly if the weather shifts or life happens!
Weather can be unpredictable, but I’m flexible! If conditions are too cloudy, windy, or rainy, we’ll reschedule as soon as possible. When possible, I’ll set a backup date in advance. If your session must happen on a specific date (like for a special event), I’ll do everything I can to make it work—finding a covered or indoor location if needed. If we can’t make it happen, your payment will go toward a future session. Refunds are only given if I have to cancel and can’t reschedule.
Choosing the right photographer is all about finding someone whose style, process, and personality align with what you’re looking for. I want your session to be fun, stress-free, and filled with moments you’ll treasure forever. If you have any questions or want to book a session, I’d love to chat!
